It is possible to apply for participation in the Visions Cruises which are annual off-shore opportunities to become part of the Operations and Maintainence Stages of the Ocean Observatory Initiative Cabled Array - a fiber optic network of sensors that are distributed across the Juan de Fuca Tectonic Plate. Every summer a month-long Research-Operational Cruise goes to the Juan de Fuca Area off the West Coast of Washington-Oregon to visit, sample, refurbish, and replace components of the NSF Ocean Observatory Initiative (OOI) network of undersea laboratories (see red boxes). In the past, students have been welcome participants in this program and it is possible to apply for such positions - usually in the February-March timeframe. Please inquire if interested.
